I am recording on channel 3 and can still change the channel on my TV to any one I want. I have a question about the VCR function. YOu would set the VCR to record but then hit the TV/VCR button and then you were free to change the channel on the TV to whatever you wanted , and it was still recording your program. This was done all the time on VCR's. Can you record a show on one channel and watch TV on another. Example.
Just beware - it does not allow you to dub any programs recorded on HBO whether or not it was originally recorded with this VCR. DVD quality is as good as the VCR tape you are dubbing. You can start and stop dubbing anywhere in the tape. Had a bunch of VHS taking up too much space and deteriorating in quality over time. This product does exactly what it says it will and does it well. I use Sony DVD +R like the manual suggests and no problem viewing on other players after finalizing. This unit does a good job of dubbing from VHS to DVD. Allows you to set chapters, titles, and title pictures.
With todays technology everything should be plug and play, not read instructions, try and setup, re-read instructions, again try to set up, and then re-read the instructions again just to finally give up.I have a friend that is an electronics wiz, so will probably have him stop by and see if he can figure this thing out. There is too many setups to go through. This thing is not as simple to use.
We finally gotten time to hook this up. On our second T.V. My wife and I purchased this product on Sept 15.
we was not able to get this product to function either, this was hooking directly from the dvd/vcr to the t.v.Our other vcr/dvd would work fine once the cables was hooked up. Otherwise our only choice is to return this and hope the next one we get will be easier to use. On our first t.v., we could not get the thing to work proper.
This was being connected to our cable box.
[issue concerned the initial set up where the instructions and phone help, were somewhat confusing] while i did have an issue when first starting i was able to resolve it and am VERY glad i did. this is a very good machine.
Sometimes it can't even read its own recordings. Two weeks ago the VCR quit playing videos and then a brand new DVD wouldn't play in it. I had to get out my old DVD player to watch the movie. I bought this DVD/VCR recorder 4 months ago. Save your self a headache and buy something else. The software on the digital tuner freezes up, you have to restart the machine or switch from digital to analog and then back to digital so it will work again. It never did perform to my satisfaction. The scanner takes too long to change channels, so if you like to channel surf you better have a lot of patience.
